Information Technology Usage in the State University libraries in Erbil City : The Central library of Salah Al-Deen University as a Sample

Abstract

The study aims at finding out the actual status of the libraries in the government university (the central library of Salah Al-Deen University as a sample) in all their department , the services these department provide , the information techniques they rely on , and also at pinpointing strength points and weakness points in these libraries and seeking to treat them . It also aims at studying the material and human factors and their effect on the provided services .The study followed the descriptive method to figure out the users opinions about the provided services to them , and to describe the library building , the departments , the personnel staff, and the techniques used in most of them . The study used aquestionnaire which consisted of four axes , each of which contained agroup od question. These questions were handed out to users who were university lecturers (Ph.D and M.A holders, and Higher postgraduate students) . Furthermore , observation and personal interview were used asmeans to collect data . The study contained 32 tables , The study ended up with many conclusions , the most important of which were the lack of personnel staff working in the library , their low level of specialized academic qualification in information and librarianship , the weakness in using information technology in the library department . Among the studys main suggestions were providing personnel staff that is well-qualified academically , and introducing information and computers techniques , electronic database , and libraries mechanizing systems to all the stages of librarianship procedures .
