The impact of Samuel Beckett’s style in Waiting for Godot on lingual and literary acquisition for learners of French as a foreign language in Iraq
Abstract
It is taken for granted that the 5th art, literature, and the 6th art, theatrical arts, have their own attractiveness for language and art passionate. 20th Century Absurd Theatre can offer both linguistic and literary abundance for learners of French as a foreign language- in spite of the incoherence of such a theatrical text. Indeed, Becketts style in Waiting for Godot is susceptible to both learning and teaching of French- due to its simplicity of words, silence and repetition. The text, accordingly- can be handled through various aspects- lexical, grammatical, semantic and stylistic. In addition, the sensuous perception of the text reinforces the visual, auditory and kinesthetic memory of the learners towards a better balance of lingual, communicative and sociocultural objectives in language.
