Abstract

This research sheds light on the issue of arousing emotions, which is considered one of the most important concepts of the romantic movement that flourished in the nineteenth century in Europe. The hero of this novel affects the reader because of his poverty and the loss of his father from a young age. What adds to his sadness and misery is that he could not marry the girl he loved so much, who died by drowning after returning from her aunt from France. Virginia's death results in the death of her mother and Paul, and this novel gives us a clear picture of the great difference between the rich and the poor classes of society.
