Abstract

The study aimed to determine the position of the African Union on the political developments after the Libyan House of Representatives assumed power in Libya following its victory in the elections of June 2014. The study ended with the signing of the Skhirat Agreement in December 2015. The study also addressed the role played by the Union and its executive authority represented by the African Peace and Security Council in order to end the political and military conflict in Libya and reach a solution that ends the suffering of the Libyan people. The study was divided into an introduction, a preface, and two requirements. The preface was devoted to providing an overview of the political situation in Libya after the collapse of the Gaddafi government in October 2011, the governments that took turns in power in Libya, and the reasons that led to resorting to armed conflict. The first requirement dealt with the position of the African Union on the political developments in Libya in 2014, which began with the appointment of a special envoy to Libya and its participation in regional and international meetings that sought a solution to the crisis in Libya. The second requirement dealt with the position of the African Union on the political developments in Libya in 2015 through the statements it issued and its participation in the meetings it attended in order to find a solution to the crisis, which ended with its welcoming of the signing of the Skhirat Agreement in December 2015.
