To translate the Holy Books is not an easy task. Crystal andDavy (1969:147) attribute this to the fact that the kind of languageused for expressing the religious beliefs in any speech community isusually one of the most distinctive varieties it possesses. Theymaintain that "very often, it is removed from the language ofeveryday conversation as to be almost unintelligible, save to aninitiated minority" (ibid.). The translator is required to possess areligious background knowledge in the religious domain into whichhe is translating; otherwise he will misunderstand the intendedmeaning of the religious discourse.
This paper tries to study Iltift , one of the rhetorical genres used generally in Arabic Language and specifically in the Glorious Qurn. We will try to examine all aspects related to Iltift with their translations from Arabic into English.
The problems tackled in this study are related to the waywhereby the meanings of the verses containing Iltift are renderedinto English. Unawareness on the part of the translator of thesignificance of Iltift markers may lead to inappropriateunderstanding of the verse which consequently leads to inaccuratetranslation that needs to be solved satisfactorily .
