Abstract

The paper gives a brief presentation of the kinds of Arabic newspapers showing their varied specialization, belonging, attitudes and information covered. These put the indexer in a confusing situation to draw his way in indexing them. It raises numerous and varied questions which need taking decisions relating to the objective(s) of the index, the type(s) of users, the numerical, kind, geographical and subject coverage of the index along with the information on the news, events, persons, mistakes and contradictions in the reports, studies and researches. They need criteria for inclusion and exclusion. The paper also gives the bibliographical elements to be included in the index. In addition it presents the guides to newspaper indexing and the technologies used for that.
