Abstract
This paper is a theoretical study of the speech act of advising. Its aim is twofold. First, it attempts to formulate a set of felicity conditions for the speech act in question taking into consideration the general framework suggested by Searle (1969), Allwood (1987), Mey (1994), and Al- Sulaimaan (1997) for the. speech act of promising .
